In May 2018 the European Commission has put forward proposals for a new EU youth Strategy for 2019-2027 to empower Europe's youth and give them a stronger voice in EU policymaking, reflecting the importance the Commission attaches to investing in young people and their future.
The Commission Communication ' Engaging, Connecting and Empowering young people: a new EU Youth Strategy' proposes to focus on the following areas of action:
- ENGAGE: Fostering young people's participation in civic and democratic life
- CONNECT: Connecting young people across the European Union and beyond to foster voluntary engagement, learning mobility, solidarity and intercultural understanding
- EMPOWER: Supporting youth empowerment through quality, innovation and recognition of youth work
